Camera ready notes:
- Camera ready art = Production Dept. doesn't have to add or alter size or print separations for the ad. It is ready to be printed.
Artwork format:
- All images color or grayscale should have a resolution of 210 DPI and a line screen of 105 LPI.
Line art resolution is 600 DPI.
- Photos - 35mm negatives or slides provide the highest quality images. B&W and color photographs will also work.
Pictures from magazines, flyers, cards, etc. provide the lowest quality.They have a dot pattern that creates a moiré pattern.
- Never use copyrighted (©) art.
Sending a PDF file: Make sure all fonts and images are embedded.The resolution should be set at 1200 and the
frequency 105. If the ad is black and white make sure it is grayscale. If it is color it should be CMYK.When sending a
4-C (CMYK) PDF file, make sure that you distill and create a file that has 4 electronic plates (that represent the CMYK
build).
Sending a QuarkXpress document: Please include the QuarkXpress document as well as all the images used in the
ad and all the fonts used. Collect for Output and then gather the fonts for inclusion to be sure it is all present before
transmission. Please include both the screen and printer version of the font and keep in mind that we do not accept PC
fonts.The files may be compressed with StuffIt Deluxe or DiskDoubler to expedite delivery. Also, please note that we
cannot accept Quark files that were created in a version newer than 4.11.
Sending an Illustrator file: Please include the Illustrator document and turn all fonts into outlines. If you do not
want to convert the fonts to outlines please send all the fonts used in the the document. Please include both the screen
and printer version of the font and keep in mind that we do not accept PC fonts. Please save file in 8.0 or less.
Sending a Photoshop file: Please send Photoshop file as a TIFF, JPEG or EPS. Please flatten the ad before sending.
Please flatten the image prior to sending.
Color requirements: All images should be submitted as grayscale unless it is a color ad. All color images MUST BE
CMYK NOT RGB. All spot color ads must be grayscale with the spot color added.This one color is the only color
that should be in the ad. For the proper CMYK breakdown of the available spot colors please refer to the color chart
that is available.When building the ad make sure that body text is created as a 100K build. (K=100% black only). Not
as a CMYK build.
Paper Stock:
- Boulder Weekly paper stock is Standard 30 lb. newsprint-70 Bright, Clairborne. It is not fully recycled paper.
* Please keep in mind that newsprint is porous and will bleed slightly. Newsprint also will gain 20%. In other words, the
ad will become slightly darker than it appears on your screen. Please make the necessary adjustments to get the best
possible print quality.
