Vote 2002 Elect John Meyer, either way John Meyer stands to be ousted from the office of County Coroner, and he can't seek re-election because of state-imposed term limits on county office-holders. The term limits are great, as they'll rid Boulder County of a County Commission that smugly and arrogantly abuses its authority in order to gain more power and control. Most in Boulder County are thankful for the term limits, as proven when county commissioners made a failed attempt to eliminate them, but they don't want to lose Meyer. Enter two good candidates who intend to keep Meyer working as coroner. Thomas Faure is currently the Chief Medical Examiner in the Boulder County Coroner's Office. Scott Replogle is a plastic surgeon from Louisville. Each candidate has stated his intent to hire Meyer back into the Coroner's Office after the election. However, Boulder Weekly urges readers to vote for either or neither of these candidates. If you vote for neither, do so to send a message that term limits are great for policy-setting politicians, but should be undone for some elected administrators. Both candidates supported Senate Bill 166 which, when passed, increased the Boulder County coroner's annual salary to $75,500. Dr. Replogle states that he would seek to privatize the county coroner's office if elected-a good idea, considering what an otherwise good term limits law does when applied to a county position that's administrative and professional, not political.
